What are the Cons of Freelancing?

  1. Payments
  2. When you have steady employment, you don’t need to worry about getting paid on time. Your bank will notify you at a certain time each month about your salary as soon as the company deposits it. However, for freelancers, this is not such a smooth process. You need to be content with receiving your payment late and there is always the possibility that you might not see a paycheck.

  3. Employment Benefits
  4. The short answer is, freelancers get none of the benefits. There is no medical coverage, no accidental insurance, no 401(k). Most freelancers need to go at it alone if they want these things. Or, if they are married, they might have to depend upon their spouse’s benefits.

  5. Writing for Others
  6. Who is your audience? Who are you showcasing your skills for? If you happen to be an entrepreneur, it’s a good thing. But more often than not, freelancers tend to write on behalf of someone else, often clients. This is not a big deal for some people, but for others, it gets boring after a while. So, like any other career, you must ask yourself whether you are happy and content doing what you are doing. When you have an answer all figured out, it is time to make necessary changes.
